Lives and works in Mexico City
Eduardo Abaroa often works with found objects to create sculptures and installations that combine an interest in the history of modernism and conceptual art practices with an active engagement in socio-political issues and popular culture.
Abaroa will present two projects as part of ‘The woods that see and hear’ exhibition.
The first is ‘Sanitary Stonehenge’ (2006-10), an installation of portable toilets suggesting the United Kingdom’s Stonehenge monument. Sited in close proximity to the former farm’s deposit of fertilizer (pig manure), this work provides a striking visual statement that leads us to consider ideas of waste, consumption and pollution. At the same time, the ritualistic and celebratory aspect of the work also recalls pagan festivals and earlier attitudes towards nature.
Alongside ‘Sanitary Stonehenge’, is a new work ‘Extraction of the Stone of Madness’ (2010) that has been filmed on-site at dertien hectare.
During the late night event Midsummer night’s dream on 19 June Abaroa will present a special soundscape.
