Tue Greenfort (DK)
Born in 1973, Holbaek, Denmark
Lives and works in Denmark and Berlin
Ecological concerns are a driving force in Tue Greenfort’s practice and his works often contain a strong critique of current practices, revealing society’s general preference for ‘quick-fix’ temporary solutions instead of tackling the source of problems and then developing long-term solutions.
A compelling example is ‘Diffuse Einträge’ which Greenfort made for the 2007 Skulptur Projekte Münster exhibition. In this work Greenfort addressed the local municipality’s commitment to an elaborate and ongoing cosmetic treatment of blue-green algae in the Aasee Lake rather than addressing the factors that cause the presence of the algae in the first place.
For ‘The woods that see and hear’ Greenfort will present a related project, ‘Eutrophication’ (2009-10), which will be located next to a frog pond on the dertien hectare site. Eutrophication is a process that occurs when there is an over-concentration of nutrients in an ecosystem, prompting excessive plant growth and decay and usually leading to a reduction of water quality to the detriment of plant and aquatic life. Greenfort’s work addresses the eutrophication of the frog pond by means of a self-powered machine that runs on wind and solar energy.
